In Loving Memory of Shazan Begum (Maisha)
17/09/2004 – 24/08/2021
Shazan Begum, lovingly known as Maisha, was a beautiful soul who brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone around her. Born with Down syndrome, she had a unique light that shone brightly within her family and community. She was full of life, fun-loving, and had a smile that could lift any heart.
Tragically, Maisha passed away during the Covid pandemic in 2021. Her loss was deeply felt by her family, especially her brother, Ruhel Miah (Tyson), who shared a close and special bond with her.
In honour of his beloved sister, Ruhel wants to give back and support others who are on a similar journey. As part of this effort, he is launching a 21-day daily walk/run campaign to raise awareness and support for individuals with Down syndrome. This challenge encourages people to come together, stay active, and make a meaningful difference.
He is raising awareness and supporting organisations that care for individuals with Down syndrome, ensuring they receive the love, support, and opportunities they deserve.
One such organisation is Sunshine and Smiles, which provides vital support to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Through this campaign, Ruhel hopes to contribute towards their work and continue Maisha’s legacy of spreading happiness and positivity.
This Down Syndrome Day, we remember Maisha not just for the challenges she faced, but for the joy she gave, the love she shared, and the inspiration she continues to be.
May her memory continue to inspire kindness, generosity, and lasting good in the world.
Thank you,
Ruhell (Tyson)
